“A wife of noble character who can find?
She is worth far more than rubies.”

Proverbs 31:10, NIV

In Proverbs 31:10-31, we have what many call the ideal woman. One Mother’s Day several years ago, I preached on the ideal woman and sent all our women and moms home discouraged and with the feeling they had failed and could never live up to that standard.

Actually, this is not the ideal woman. It is the “Real Woman.” The woman God intends for all women to be. Not necessarily fitting the specific content:encoded, but certainly the general content:encoded.

Even though society would call this counter-cultural, the Proverbs 31 Woman had as her main priority in life, her family. She was not a feminist who felt her worth was only found in a career outside of the home and being able to compete with the men. She was a nurturing mother, wife and woman of dignity. This did not mean she did not have outside interests. Verses 16 and 18 show she was a profitable businesswoman. To be a Godly woman or mom does not mean you check your business sense and brains at the door. The chapter goes on to say she had wisdom, she was fulfilled and happy (verse 25). Because of her commitment to her family, her husband and children respected and honored her. What better achievement could anyone have but for her family, the ones who know her best, to stand up and praise her?

QUESTION: There are at least ten rewards of a Proverbs 31 woman found in verses 10 – 31. Can you find them? Maybe the family could have a family devotion and break up into two teams to see which one can find the most rewards for being the “Real Woman” in Proverbs 31.
