“What shall I do, then, with Jesus who is called Christ?”
Matthew 27:22, NIV
Larry King is one of the most celebrated interviewers of our day. On the occasion of his fortieth anniversary in broadcasting the tables were turned and he was the one being interviewed. One of the questions Bryant Gumble asked him was, “What would you ask God if he were a guest on your show?” The first words out of King’s mouth were, “Do you have a son?” King says he is agnostic, but it is obvious he knows the question holds much in its answer.
Luke’s Gospel says eyewitnesses at Jesus’ baptism heard a voice from heaven answering this very question. “And as He was praying, heaven opened and the Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: ‘You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.’ ” (Luke 3:21-22) Worldwide over 66,000 books have been written about Jesus. The Koran mentions him by name over ninety times. The Dali Lama who claims to be in his fourteenth reincarnation has recently written about him saying, “I am not worthy to untie the shoes of Jesus.”
Simon Peter, in answer to Jesus’ question, “Who do you say that I am?” responded, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” (Matthew 16:16) Thomas, the disciple known to have his bouts with doubt about Jesus ultimately declared “My Lord and my God!” (John 20:28)
Pilate asked the crowd, “What shall I do, then, with Jesus who is called Christ?” (Matthew 27:22) Truly this is the question of all questions. Have you yet made your decision? Receive His sacrifice on your behalf. Accept the gift of divine forgiveness and salvation. Let Him be your Messiah deliverer leading you in to God’s promised land.
QUESTION: What have you been doing with Jesus? What should you now do with Jesus?
