“Encourage one another daily, as long as it is called Today,
so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness.”
Hebrews 3:13, NIV
A dear friend once said, “The problem with life is that it is so daily.” He went on to chronicle the many drudgeries of life we endure over and over again on a daily basis. It made me tired just listening to him, but he was right. Daily is challenging, even dangerous. Daily repetition can harden us over time and deceive us into weariness and then into sin.
I have noticed most Christians seem to be able to handle the major life events that come their way with a good deal of faith, hope and love. We seem to get up for the big things. It seems the real test is the drudgeries of the daily grind.
One of the things that can break the daily drudgery is a well-spoken word of exhortation. A word of exhortation is the right word spoken by the right person at the right time for the right reason. That kind of word will soften a hardening heart.
If the “daily-ness” of life is hard on you, be sure to ask God to surround you with people who will exhort you. Exhorters will speak into your day what needs to be said to break up the hardened areas of your life. Let them speak.
Today as you do your daily routine, exhort someone with words of faith, hope or love. You will soften a heart, reduce the deceit of sin, and improve your own day in the process.
“A word spoken in due season, how good it is!”
QUESTION: What would be the right words for that special person in your world? Can you put the words in a simple sentence? Before you speak, be sure you are the right person speaking at the right time.
