“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 4:6 and 7, NIV
“I am so anxious!” Concern was etched deeply in her brown eyes. The young woman was scheduled to meet with the head of her company later that week. She was nervous because so much could be riding on that meeting. “What can I do?”
“You need to S.W.A.P.,” I said. I spelled it out. “Stop Worrying And Pray!” As Paul says: “Do not worry about anything. Instead, pray about everything and receive God’s peace.” SWAP your worries for God’s peace.
She finished the verse, “And the peace of God which surpasses all comprehension, shall guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.” “Exactly,” I said. “His peace stands sentinel keeping your concerns at bay. Thank God that Christ in you is big enough to handle this, big enough to free you from anxiety, big enough to help you in preparation, big enough to lead you in the conversation.”
It was then she realized she had become so overwhelmed by worry over her circumstances she had not thanked God for anything! She was too busy worrying about everything that could possibly go wrong. As a result she was at the center of her life and was trying to face her circumstances from her limited resources.
Thank Jesus for His all-sufficient grace, for entering into your requests and making them an occasion to show Himself faithful. Do not wait until you see it happen. Thank Him in advance and watch it happen!
