“…Be strong in the Lord and His mighty power.
Put on the full armor of God so that you can
take your stand against the devil’s schemes.”
Ephesians 6:10-11, NIV
As I was preparing to go mountain climbing, I received an equipment list for the climb. I found out a long time ago that the saying is true – the right tools make the job a lot easier. There can be real frustration at not having the right tool for the job. It can take much longer and not be done as well. That certainly is true with my trip to the mountain summit. Very specialized gear makes the trip much smoother and easier.
You know God has His own outfitter for life as well. The Holy Spirit can equip me and you for any challenge. I have to admit that being a pastor was beyond my imagination when I was younger. Even some days now, it is beyond my imagination. Preaching God’s Word to touch the hearts of God’s sons and daughters is an awesome responsibility. I often wonder what God is going to have me share this week as I begin work on a sermon. But God’s Holy Spirit is a wonderful tool. I would not be the person I am without God’s Spirit. The Holy Spirit gives us the tools to deal with life’s challenges as Jesus would.
Sometimes life’s difficulties seem overwhelming. They will be overwhelming if we try to handle them with only our own resources. The good news is we do not have to. That is the key to success, being outfitted by the One who knows the obstacles and the best trail through life.
QUESTION: Have you been looking only at your own resources and tools for the challenges you face today. So many times I do too! But God is calling you and me to be outfitted with the Holy Spirit and ask Him to open doors or give us the right tool to make life work the way He wants it. Turn it over to God and be outfitted with His Spirit.
