“…and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”
Hebrews 12:1b-2, NKJV

I am trying to make my dream come true by climbing Mt. Ranier soon. I have engaged the services of a guide. The guides have many years of experience in climbing on this mountain and many others. Some have even climbed the highest mountain in the world – Mt. Everest!

On this journey to the summit, there can be many obstacles: Crevasses and avalanches are not uncommon in this environment. Some of these obstacles can not only hurt you, they can even threaten life itself. This is no game! It is serious business. The primary goal of the guides is to bring me and them back safely. Reaching the summit is important but not at the expense of safety. It certainly helps to have someone with experience, knowledge, and the right perspective.

As Christians, we have that and much more in the person of Jesus. He has experienced life, its pitfalls, temptations, joys, disappointments, and frustrations. He has been in the valleys and the mountain tops and he has the right perspective. His perspective is one of trust in the Father. His perspective is a perspective of love – unconditionally for you and me. He knows our strengths and our weaknesses, yet He loves us as we are. He loves us whether we make our goals or not because He has made us and saved us. He is our life-long guide to fulfillment, hope, joy, and love.

QUESTION: Who have been some of the pioneers of your faith? Who have helped you along the way, perhaps pointing out the stumbling blocks or sharing some terrific perspectives on life? How were they like Jesus to you? Thank God for these “pioneers” of faith, and for Jesus as He gives you direction and walks with you today.
