“Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me
free from the law of sin and death.”

Romans 8:1-2, NIV

One of the most settling privileges we have is no guilt. When we received God’s free gift of forgiveness, we really were forgiven. We were set free like a bird let out of its cage from the limits and judgment of sin in our lives. The devil wants to hold us captive to feelings of defeat and inadequacies that constantly keep us from soaring as God designed us.

We never perform for God’s approval of us. No, we serve God because He loves us and we are deeply in love with Him. Our guilt is already taken care of. The law that you and I can never achieve was accomplished for us through the death of Jesus. What God did through Christ is make a deposit for you and me called righteousness. “God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” (2 Corinthians 5:21) Jesus informed us Himself, “I came to fulfill the Law.”

You may still feel condemned. However, your feelings do not change the fact that God still sees you like He sees His beloved Son. When God looks at you He does not see your weakness or shortcomings.

Know that God loves you. Keep in mind the difference between conviction and guilt. When God speaks to us, His Spirit can speak words of conviction that are driven by His truth. Conviction tells you what is wrong and how to correct it. Guilt, on the other hand, brings nagging thoughts of failure and inadequacies. God never wants you to focus on your failures. He calls us to confess our sin and move on. Claim God’s forgiveness and stop living under condemnation today.
