“And afterward, I will pour out my spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions.”
Joel 2:28, NIV
In this day and age, many people have stopped dreaming. We have lost vision for what our futures could hold. Our dreams for our marriages, our jobs, and our lives have been blurred. Past mistakes and broken expectations cause the dreamer inside of us to no longer believe. We settle for a discounted marriage, half-priced family, and a second-hand future. We cave in to the dictates of the world and design our lives to live quietly.
Dreams are vitally important in realizing God’s vision for your life and to get your life up above the rim. When God tells us “old men will dream dreams,” he is not giving us a chronological prerequisite or an age-sensitive promise. You do not have to wait until your hair and teeth fall out before you can dream. The Lord is simply saying it is never too late to start again.
I think the Lord knew we were going to stop dreaming so he poured forth his Spirit in a new way to help us dream again. Do not be afraid to dream big dreams.
QUESTION: Have you given up on your dreams? Why do we think our dreams are too big for God?
