“Paul, a prisoner of Jesus Christ, and Timothy our brother, unto Philemon our dearly beloved, and fellow laborer, And to our beloved Apphia, and Archippus our fellow soldier, and to the church in thy house: Grace to you, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.”
Philemon 1-3, NKJV
Are you making a difference in someone’s life? You may be making a greater difference than you realize.
In 1816 a Scotsman, by the name of Robert Haldane, was sitting on a park bench. Haldane overheard a group of college students discussing Christianity. It was obvious to him that they were ignorant of Christianity and he invited them to his Bible study. Five of the young men came and were fascinated as Haldane taught the book of Romans. His influence was overwhelming. Of these five one was Merle d’Aubigre, who wrote a history of the Reformation. The work was of the life and ministry of Martin Luther. Second was Louis Gaussen, author of Theopneustia. Bonifas was the third in the group, who became a well-known theologian. Another was Frederic Monad who founded the free churches of France. The final one was Cesar Malan who directed an important religious group.
Paul writes of Philemon, Apphia and Archippus. These were people who influenced Paul. His life was different because of them.
Often we are not aware of the difference we make in lives. The issue is to simply be faithful in being a blessing to people. Early in my ministry, I spent a few years working as a youth pastor. I remember a beautiful red head teenage girl in one of our groups who was the proverbial “thorn in my flesh.” I had not seen her in years. I was preaching at a Bible college when a beautiful bright red headed woman shouted “there you are,” as she ran over to my wife and me. She gave her name and said she was teaching at the college. She then thanked us for helping her when she was a teenager. I had no idea that I had been a blessing to her. What a challenge to be faithful knowing I can make a difference in someone’s life.
QUESTION: Who are you investing your life with? What are the things you are doing to make a difference in someone’s life?
