“May the Lord direct your hearts into God’s love and Christ’s perseverance.”
2 Thessalonians 3:5, NIV
I have a confession to make! Those who have ever ridden in a car with me will easily bear witness to this statement: I am not a good driver and I never have been a good driver. I hope someday to be a good driver, but time is running out. I am one of the few individuals that flunked Driver’s Education. It took me three times to pass the driving test and then I think the instructor passed me for fear she would have to ride with me one more time!
In all seriousness, do you agree that it would be great to have a “Lover’s Education” course? You know what I am talking about…a course and instructor that would direct you, teach you, and show you by example the way of love so that you could avoid a disaster in life.
We have such an instructor and He is the Lord. His Word is our manual and life is our course. Today’s scripture reminds us that when we listen and yield to the Lord and His Word, He will direct our hearts in “God’s Love and Christ’s persevering.”
The word “direct” means to make straight or be straight; to remove obstacles out of the way so you travel in life without a crash. The Lord focuses the believer’s heart upon the love of God. The result is we learn to love God and our attention and focus becomes set upon His love. Therefore, when trials, trouble, temptation, and evil attack us, we will be able to stand in His love, mindful of His instruction and avoid disaster.
QUESTION: Are you having difficulty staying on the path of purity? Do you find yourself constantly being cautioned by the sheriff of your soul? If so, then you obviously need to go back and start today in God’s class on “Lover’s Education.”
