“May the Lord make your love increase and overflow for
each other and for everyone else, just as ours does for you.”
1Thessalonians 3:12, NIV
Recently I read where a family of skunks decided to make their home in the air vents of a church in Oklahoma. Everything was fine for the stinky creatures until Sunday morning when the hot Sooner summer meant turning the air conditioning on full blast. Apparently the skunk family did not like what they experienced at church that day and not only left the building but they left a stink behind that lasted for days!
Are you aware that studies reveal that more people leave their church because of, “a lack of love” than for any other reason. It is indeed sad that even those who are committed to the Lord of love are unable to offer that love to others. The real tragedy is not just withholding our love for one another but when we leave, we also attempt to leave our “mark” on God’s people and on His church. Just like our skunk family, the stench cripples the church and it takes time to recover.
This passage should provoke our thinking as we consider: “How can we be used of the Lord to help our church increase and overflow in His love that fills not only our buildings, but our hearts as well.
QUESTION: How can your church become a place where the aroma of love will overflow for everyone, as we have read in today’s study? The increase and overflow of His love in your church needs to start with someone. It might as well be you!
