“For though a righteous man falls seven times,
he rises again, but the wicked are
brought down by calamity.”

Proverbs 24:16, NIV

You know there are many people who risk the odds. People play survivor games.
They fly over snow-covered mountains, parachute down with a snowboard and then snowboard down the mountain!

Many people live daily feeling as if life is stacked against them. Some of us have lost hope along the way. We lost faith in the possibility that we can get up again. What do you do when you need the courage to get your life above that rim? What do you do when your life is not where you want it to be and you may have lost a lot of things that have been valuable to you? When things crumble and come crashing down, God’s people find the strength to rise above the rim rather than living down on the bottom. The righteous are the ones who find the courage to rebuild.

The Bible is full of examples of those who rose again to rebuild. Moses was disinherited by Pharaoh and his name was scratched from the history books of Egypt. Joseph was betrayed by his brothers and sold into slavery. David sinned with Bathsheba and murdered her husband. Peter denied the Lord. With God’s strength they were able to get up again. To get your life above the rim you must make peace with God. In the Bible it states: “When a man’s ways are pleasing to the Lord, he makes even his enemies be at peace with him.” (Proverbs 16:7) The cry of your heart must be to please God alone. You must become obedient-oriented not results-oriented. With this, you will see every event as an opportunity to grow. You must get a clear perspective from God. And how do we find God’s perspective? In His word! “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path.” (Psalm 119:105)

QUESTION: What has caused you to lose faith or courage along the way? How has
God lifted you above some of the circumstances in your life?
