“Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
Romans 10:13, NIV
God knew people were falling short of His moral standard of perfection. And God is a holy God and He could not lower His standards. He could not look away from our failures. Holiness does not work that way. Holiness demands that justice be done, crimes be punished and the price be paid for wrong doing.
God did an extraordinary thing. Because of His outrageous love for you and me, God commissioned Jesus Christ to come to earth in the form of a human being, to live among humans, and then to die a substitute death on behalf of sinners.
While Jesus, the sinless son of God, was hanging on the cross, God arranged for the shortcomings and the sins of the world (including yours and mine) to be transferred from our shoulders to the shoulders of Jesus, His son. He could not stand the thought of the people He loves spending eternity in condemnation because of their mistakes and sins. And so He provided another way through His son. That is why just before Jesus died He cried out, “It is finished!”
Now, this does not mean that because Jesus Christ takes the rap for us that everyone is in the clear. The Bible teaches there has to be a sincere personal transaction between you and God in order for Christ’s work on the cross to be applied in your life.
The Bible says in a way you have got to sign up. You have to make what Jesus did for the world a personal covenant between you and Him. You have to come to a point when you say, “I want His work on the cross applied to the shortcomings and sins in my life.” When you sign on the dotted line, you will be adopted into God’s family. The Holy Spirit takes up residence in your life. God will give you a brand new life and heaven will be your eternal destiny.
QUESTION: Have you “signed up” to be part of God’s family? If you have not, what is holding you back?
