“If a man dies, will he live again?”
Job 14:14, NIV
A letter came from Health and Human Services to a resident of Greenville County, South Carolina: “Your food stamps will be stopped effective in March, because we received notice that you passed away. You may reapply if your circumstances change.” True story!
One day our circumstances will change. Because of the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead we know that we can live forever with Him. Not only that, but God has the power to change our situation today. The Apostle Paul said, “I pray that you will begin to understand the incredible greatness of His power for us who believe him. This is the same mighty power that raised Christ from the dead…” (Ephesians 1:19-20, NLT)
The same power that raised Jesus from the dead can transform your life and reverse your situation. When your circumstances seem desperate, just wait for God to work. The disciples waited three days and then everything changed. Everything!
Marguerite Higgins won the Pulitzer Prize in 1951 for one line. She went to the battlefield in the Korean War. There were 18,000 Marines from the 5th Battalion on one side of a hill and there were 100,000 Communists on the other side. It was 42 degrees below zero, uniforms were frozen, and they were out of food. They had been surrounded for four weeks.
She interviewed a sergeant and she asked him a question and for his answer she won the Pulitzer Prize. She asked him “If I were God and I could give you any one thing that you asked for, what would you ask for?” He said “Anything?” She said “Anything.” He thought for a moment and said, “I’d ask for tomorrow.”
Jesus Christ alone promises tomorrow. And because He lives we cannot only face tomorrow, we can anticipate it. I do not know what the future holds, but I do know Who holds the future.
QUESTION: Do you believe that God has the power to change your situation? What circumstances are you waiting for Him to change?
