1 Peter 1:12, NIV
If you have ever felt overwhelmed concerning God’s special relationship with you, you are not alone. As the above verse declares, the ancient prophets strained to understand how and when God was going to bring eternal freedom to mankind through the sacrificial death of the promised Messiah. They did not fully understand what they wrote, but they did understand their writings were for the benefit of future generations. However, Peter also makes another intriguing comment, “Even angels long to look into these things.”
The angels of God do not understand the special love that God has for you nor the provisions he has made for your eternal security. God’s special relationship with you is a mystery to them! Why? It is a mystery because God did not offer to them the same kind of relationship and special consideration when Lucifer and one third of the angels of heaven rebelled against him. When the evil angels rebelled, God cast them out of heaven and placed upon them an unpardonable sentence of death. God will one day cast every rebellious angel into everlasting suffering with no possibility of parole or pardon.
When the angels, both fallen and holy, gaze upon us, they must ask, “What’s so special about man that the Holy Father has given him a second chance?” Well, they have not discovered the answer yet and neither has man. Only God fully understands why we are so special to Him. One day He will reveal it to us all. But for now . . .
QUESTION: Let us just thank God that it is as it is, and let us take time to praise Him that it is as it is. Also, how can you practically thank God today with your life and service?
