“But God demonstrates his own love for us in this:
While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
Romans 5:8, NIV
Even though God created us as amazing and unique beings, we realize that our daily lives are characterized by many failures. We think wrong thoughts. We say wrong words. We do wrong deeds. We respond to each other insensitively. We respond toward God with indifference and rebelliousness.
The horrible truth is, we have all fallen far, far short of God’s expectation and desire for our lives. Every one of us has grossly offended God through our insensitive and rebellious behavior. God created each one of us as intricate and special beings, but we have terribly marred His creation, and we have no legitimate right to expect God’s favor to be upon our lives.
But God is an amazing God! The Bible tells us that we are so special to God that He loved us at our most unlovable moment. While we were completely stained with rebelliousness and indifference toward Him, He sent Jesus Christ to us as a peace offering. Being an absolutely holy and just God, He could not wink at our sinfulness. A penalty had to be paid, and the penalty for rebellion against God is eternal separation from Him in a place the Bible calls hell. But we are so special to God that He sent Jesus to die in our place. And all He has required from us to receive this pardon is for us to acknowledge our sin and to trust Jesus to be our Savior.
QUESTION: Would you like Jesus to be your substitute? If so, pray this simple prayer to God: “God, I confess to You that I have sinned. I now ask Jesus to forgive me of my sins and to be my Savior. I believe that Jesus is Your Son and that You have given Him the authority to forgive me of my sins for all eternity and I ask Him to do exactly that right now. Today, I trust Jesus as my eternal Savior.”
