“Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”
Romans 15:13, NKJV
Hope is the holding power of the human heart. We can endure many hardships as long as we have even the smallest expectation that our trial has purpose. And the stronger the hope, the longer our determination to endure. But why is one able to hold on indefinitely while another gives up immediately? This Scripture states that the source of relentless hope is God, through the power of His Holy Spirit.
I have a laptop computer that is good for about two hours. Around one and a half hours into working, I get a message that my source of energy is failing. If I ignore that warning, my computer will crash. I have to bypass the battery and plug into the endless energy of electricity. That is us in a nutshell. We are good for about one day’s worth of spiritual fortitude. Then we must plug into our never-ending source of eternal power in Christ, or quit working.
When we find our faith failing, and the storms of life appear to be overtaking us, God says to call upon the power of the Holy Spirit, who will fill us with joy and peace, as we believe in His goodness in spite of the wickedness of our conditions. As we do so, we will find a bountiful supply of hope to help us hang onto the promises of God.
