“Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 1:6, NIV
The word to tempt in Greek is the word periazo. The Greek word to test is dokimon. Periazo means to find a weakness with the goal of using the weakness to destroy the person. The word dokimon means to locate a weakness with a purpose of strengthening and reinforcing it.
Evil is the tempter looking for our weakness so that he can tempt and cause us to fail. God looks for our weakness and tests us to make sure we are strong enough to withstand and build character. God will never tempt us because God’s character is love. Like a carpenter who has built a custom bookshelf, God is continuing to complete the project in you and me. That is the work of the Holy Spirit and any place there is a weakness God will continue to test us to strengthen us..
So when the Holy Spirit puts pressure on you and reveals a weakness, do not give up. Do not drop out. The Holy Spirit is about to reinforce and strengthen an area of your life so you will be able to sustain the weight of God’s assignment and commission to you.
QUESTION: How do trials strengthen your character? What trial are you going through right now? What positive result do you think it can achieve in your life?
