“‘I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.’ Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink?’ And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.'”
Matthew 25:36,37,40 NKJV
Imagine going to a birthday party with gifts for all the guests but nothing for the one whose birthday celebration it is. That would be rude. Somehow we are missing the point.
Gift giving at Christmas can be very stressful. It is not about selecting the perfect gift, but rather selecting the right recipient. This is the season we celebrate the birth of our Lord. How can we even consider coming to this celebration without giving an extravagant gift to Jesus?
Some might wonder how a gift could be given to Jesus. But He answered that dilemma. Jesus said to find someone in need.
Rather than trying to squeeze more things into each other’s closets this year… things we do not really need… why not give to a person in need. Is there a single parent waiting on tables at the diner you frequent? Why not buy her a beautiful sweater, wrap it and give it to her this Christmas?
Last Christmas a friend gave a sacrificial gift to the child of a friend in need. I was so moved by this gift of thoughtfulness. There is nothing that brings me more joy than to see other people express their love to children… especially when they are in need.
Give a special gift to Jesus this Christmas. Find someone you can personally bless. Look them in the eyes and tell them it is from Jesus.
