“But the greatest of these is love.”
I Corinthians 13:13, NIV

Today’s study is the word “love.” We can examine the many facets of love but what we know is that true love originates with God and true love never fails!

I was first introduced to the “love chapter” by a beautiful young girl. She asked me if I knew where it was located in the Bible. Like lightning she directed me to the 13th Chapter of Paul’s first Book to the Church at Corinth. It was amazing that the girl who introduced me to the love chapter in God’s Word is also the same girl that God used to introduce me to the love of my life, my wife Cynthia. After more than thirty years of living in the love of Christ, Cynthia and I realized that we deeply love each other because, in Christ, we are perfect together.

We learned long ago to periodically give ourselves the “Love Test” to see if we were still motivated to love each other by His power and love and not by our own strength. The “Love Test” is easy, just take I Corinthians13:4-7 and every time you see the word “love,” replace it with your name and see if it continues to be an honest statement. I will demonstrate…”Larry is patient and kind. Larry is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. Larry does not demand his own way. Larry never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.”

As you can see, it does not take long to immediately realize what area of your life you need to surrender to Christ, and allow His love to flow through you to others. I rejoice today that the love of Jesus Christ will endure forever!

QUESTION: Take a moment and give yourself the “Love Test.” Based on your response, can you stop right now and ask the Father, the “Lover of your Soul” to forgive you for any action not based on biblical love and ask Him to fill you with His perfect love?
